Lax policies by our administration have allowed potential terrorist elements to infiltrate the country, posing grave national security risks that demand immediate and decisive action to secure the border and enforce immigration laws.
The escalating crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border has transformed into a significant national security threat, worsened by the lenient immigration policies of the Biden administration. Amid unprecedented illegal crossings, a stark reality has surfaced: the southern border's permeability is enabling terrorist groups, including the revitalized ISIS-Khorasan, to penetrate our land.
Senate Majority Leader Schumer's recent attempt to revive border security legislation underscores the urgency of the situation. "We are hopeful this bipartisan proposal will bring serious-minded Republicans back to the table to advance this bipartisan solution for our border," Schumer stated, acknowledging the political divisiveness surrounding the issue. However, even this effort faces an uphill battle, with the Democratic leader conceding, "I do not expect all Democrats to support this legislation."
The proposed bill, which previously stalled amid Republican objections, aims to address the crisis through measures such as allocating $20 billion for border security, shifting asylum cases to the Department of Homeland Security for more stringent processing, and granting the authority to automatically deport migrants when crossings exceed a certain threshold. Another disturbing incident involved Mohammad Kharwin, an illegal Afghan immigrant suspected of being on the FBI's terror watch list for his affiliation with the Hezb-e-Islami terrorist organization. Despite these grave concerns, Kharwin was allowed to roam freely within the United States for over a year before authorities could confirm his identity and apprehend him.
These examples are merely the tip of the iceberg, as the Department of Homeland Security estimates that over 6,000 illegal immigrants hailing from regions with active ISIS-K recruiting presences have entered the country since Biden took office. "There is no telling exactly how many affiliates of ISIS-K or other terror groups are now living among us," cautioned a concerned observer.
The urgency of the situation is further amplified by reports of foreign smugglers with ties to ISIS facilitating illegal immigration at the southern border. As one expert grimly warned, "ISIS-K is no longer a distant threat hiding in the Middle East. It may already be here, just waiting for the right moment to inflict mass destruction."
Amid this mounting crisis, migrants themselves are acutely aware of the precarious window of opportunity presented by the current administration's policies. Two Colombian brothers, Ricardo and Sebastian, who recently crossed the Arizona border illegally, candidly admitted, "We think with the elections, it will be harder. We don't want Trump."
