Comedian Adam Carolla Rips 'Narcissistic Douchebag' Newsom, Declares 'I Have to Leave' California's Downward Spiral
Nathan Rivero, 6/26/2024Comedian Adam Carolla rips Newsom, plans to leave California over its "unbearable" declineIn a candid interview on "The Sage Steele Show," Carolla expressed his dismay at the dire situation in California. "It's horrible," he said, reflecting on the state’s rapid decline into homelessness, crime, and decaying infrastructure. "Growing up out here, nobody left. You'd be a fool to leave," he recalled, highlighting the stark contrast between California's past allure and its present turmoil.
Carolla, like many others, is now part of the exodus seeking refuge in states with better governance and opportunities. His shortlist includes Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. "I have twins in their senior year of high school. I didn't want to disrupt their lives," he explained, sharing his plans to attend their graduation ceremony and then hit the road in a U-Haul truck. "This isn't about finding something better; it's about escaping something that’s become unbearable."
Carolla's move underscores the growing dissatisfaction with California's liberal policies, as more residents decide to leave behind the state's "crumbling liberal utopia" in search of greener pastures.
Carolla's scathing rebuke extended to California's elected officials, whom he accused of steering the state towards a precipice while ignoring repeated warnings. "I say to a lot of people like, when's it end? When do we change course? And the number one answer is, 'We haven't bottomed out yet. We're getting near it. We haven't totally bottomed out,'" he recounted, incredulous at the state's reluctance to reverse course. "It's like saying, you know, I was looking for some stuff in my son's room and I found some syringes and a baggie of heroin. But he hasn't flatlined yet, okay? I have not walked in and seen foam coming out of his mouth or him convulsing. And you go, 'Yeah, I know, but why don't you get him in some treatment now?' And you go 'Because his heart hasn't stopped yet.' And it's like, 'Yeah, I know, but why do we have to bottom out?' We know where we're going. Let's reverse course. California and Los Angeles can't do it."
Carolla's ire was particularly focused on Newsom, whom he lambasted as an "empty bag" who "says nothing" yet retains unwavering support from Californians -- a phenomenon he likened to "Dumbo moms" blindly following party affiliation. "My mom right before she died, I was like, 'Listen, I'd rather let Larry Elder be the governor than Newsom. And she's like, 'I don't know about' -- what's funny about her -- super progressive White lady, but Larry Elder being Black doesn't mean anything to her because he's on the wrong side, right?... So she goes, 'I don't know who Larry Elder is, but I know Gavin Newsom's a Democrat.' And I'm like, that's how we vote. Like Dumbo moms. It's like ride or die with Gavin Newsom. And it's like, can you just admit you made a mistake and try something else? And it's like, no, we cannot."
Carolla's disdain for Newsom stems from a contentious 2013 interview when the then-lieutenant governor stumbled over questions about predatory check-cashing practices and traffic congestion -- the latter prompting a nonsensical response about a billboard that read, "You're not in traffic. You are traffic." "He's a buffoon. He's an idiot," Carolla fumed, recounting how Newsom dismissed his concerns about homelessness by suggesting the "real face" was a divorced mother working minimum wage -- a portrayal Carolla vehemently rejected.
As Carolla prepares to bid farewell to California, his parting shots underscore the growing disillusionment among residents grappling with the state's myriad crises. And while his destination remains uncertain, one thing is clear: the once-unthinkable notion of leaving the Golden State has become a stark reality for an increasing number of Californians -- a reality that even a self-proclaimed "slippery eel of nothingness" can no longer gloss over.
