MAGA Fury Erupts Over Biden's 'Disgusting' Medal of Freedom for Soros and Clinton
Glenn Gilmour, 1/5/2025MAGA supporters outraged as Biden awards Medal of Freedom to George Soros and Clinton. The MAGA movement is up in arms -- "furious" and "disgusted" over President Biden's decision to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, to billionaire Democratic donor and philanthropist George Soros. Supporters of former President Trump took to social media to voice their outrage, with the anonymous @catturd2 account, boasting over 3 million followers, simply posting: "Disgusting."
Natalie F Danelishen, a conservative influencer, echoed the sentiment, writing: "Biden is giving the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Hillary Clinton and George Soros... seriously two of the worst people on earth. This could be a @TheBabylonBee article with how unbelievable it is." Billionaire Trump donor and ally Elon Musk chimed in, responding "Unbelievable" under Danelishen's post.
The anonymous @WallStreetMav account called Biden's decision "a final middle finger to the USA," accusing the President of naming "former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and billionaire political activist and philanthropist George Soros recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom."
The outrage stems from Soros' long-standing support for progressive causes and Democratic candidates -- he has reportedly donated over $21 billion to such efforts since 2000, making him one of the most influential donors in U.S. politics. Republicans have often invoked Soros' name in campaign rhetoric, casting him as a symbol of elite liberal influence and accusing him of promoting "soft-on-crime" policies through his support for criminal justice reform.
However, Soros' son, Alex Soros, defended his father's honor, stating in a statement to Newsweek: "My father is an American hero and has long been a champion of freedom. His formative experiences made him a lifelong champion of the values of open society in the US and around the world. He has always been ahead of the curve in supporting what is most needed to strengthen freedom in society. No one is more deserving of this honor."
The 94-year-old Soros, a Jewish Holocaust survivor who fled communism in Hungary and immigrated to the United States, expressed his gratitude for the award, saying: "As an immigrant who found freedom and prosperity in America, I am deeply moved by this honor. I accept it on behalf of the many people around the world with whom the Open Society Foundations have made common cause over the past 40 years."
The list of recipients also includes former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton -- another figure who has drawn the ire of Trump supporters. The White House stated that the honorees have made "exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors."
In a separate controversy, Washington Post cartoonist Ann Telnaes announced her resignation from the paper, accusing it of spiking her cartoon critical of Amazon founder and Post owner Jeff Bezos for allegedly "groveling" to Trump. Telnaes shared a rough draft of the unpublished cartoon, depicting Bezos and other wealthy businessmen prostrating before Trump and offering bags of money.
Telnaes wrote on her Substack: "To be clear, there have been instances where sketches have been rejected or revisions requested, but never because of the point of view inherent in the cartoon's commentary. That's a game changer...and dangerous for a free press." However, the Post's editorial page editor David Shipley denied the accusation, stating that he killed the cartoon to avoid "repetition" of a story, not for political reasons.
Meanwhile, Trump hosted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Mar-a-Lago amid demands from Iran over the arrest of an Italian journalist in Tehran. The meeting occurred as Meloni faces a foreign policy test following the detention of Cecilia Sala, who is reportedly being held in solitary confinement under harsh conditions. Iran has urged Italy to release an Iranian businessman arrested in Milan on a U.S. warrant, threatening damage to bilateral ties if the demand is not met.
