Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has scored a win with a guilty verdict on 34 counts of falsifying business records. It's infuriating, especially when it seems like a politically driven move. But hey, don't despair, folks. This is just the start of their push, and we're not about to let them walk away with a victory without putting up a fight.
In a blatant act of lawfare, Bragg has twisted the law to his own ends, charging Trump with federal election violations that even the most seasoned legal minds cannot comprehend. "Never before have state prosecutors charged a defendant with federal election reporting violations (state courts don't have jurisdiction)," laments one astute observer. This is a clear case of the Democrats moving the goalposts, rewriting the rules to suit their agenda.
And what agenda is that, you ask? Why, nothing less than the subversion of our sacred democratic process. As Yale Law Professor Jed Rubenfeld so eloquently warns, "If this conviction is unlawful and unconstitutional, it could have an effect on that election." An effect, indeed -- the Democrats seek to disqualify their greatest foe from the 2024 presidential race, denying the American people their rightful choice.
But we shall not go gentle into that good night. Trump's legal team is already exploring avenues to challenge this travesty, including the possibility of seeking "an emergency, temporary restraining order" from the federal courts. For as Rubenfeld rightly declares, "The nation could get a ruling from the federal courts, even the Supreme Court of the United States, before the election takes place." Perhaps that is what the nation needs, a decisive rebuke to the lawless machinations of the Left.
And what of the charges themselves? A mere smokescreen, obfuscating the true nature of their assault. "Even now, we don't know exactly what the jury found Trump guilty of," Rubenfeld laments. The Democrats have played a game of "legal hide the ball," denying the former President his most fundamental rights. Is this the America we want, where political opponents are targeted with "unprecedented applications of the law"?
My friends, we cannot let this stand. The verdict may be in, but the battle rages on. Let's come together and support Donald Trump, our leader, and give it everything we've got to protect the fairness of our elections.
